Nathan Aaron was born and raised in the hills of West Virginia, celebrated for its rich Appalachian oral history, folk art, music, and legend. He left the “mountain state” to attend the University of Indianapolis as a classical vocal performance major, and later set his sights on New York City, where he moved in 2002 to study musical theatre at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA). After graduation, he worked for a decade as an actor in the performing arts, both in New York and throughout the United States. Nathan transitioned from the stage by expanding his event and project management skills within the arenas of corporate global investment firms, nonprofit justice and human rights initiatives, as well as, with private art collectors and political philanthropists.
Traveling frequently in the U.S, the United Kingdom, and Europe Nathan has also walked the 500-mile sacred pilgrimage route called, The Camino Santiago de Compostela in Spain which clarified his vocation as a writer, speaker, and facilitator. In his writing and teaching Nathan tells the candid story of his personal journey of making his way out of a cult-like Christian evangelical ministry which espoused a strict holiness code. As the gay son of a Baptist pastor, he set out on a path to discover and practice a more inclusive universal spirituality.
Nathan articulates his thoughts and reflections, elaborating upon universal spiritual themes and realizations recorded over a twenty-year period of daily journaling, meditation, and prayer. He continues his work as a writer and spiritual teacher based in New York City.
Walking Yourself Home -
Walking Yourself Home has been the name of this website from its November 2017 inception. My friend Jane (who was helping me build the site) and I were brainstorming domain names that would speak to who I am and the work I wanted to do. We settled on Walking Yourself Home because it seemed to embody what had and has become my mission – which is to help people return home to themselves through a manageable spiritual practice of healing designed for what works for you .
Recently, my first novel, A Knot in the Tree, was published and I realized that from a marketing perspective to help streamline my online presence it would be best to change my domain site name to Nathan Aaron, Author. However, this does not mean that I am abandoning the work of Walking Yourself Home. This concept of walking ourselves back home to ourselves will remain the foundation of my work. Every book, article, or post that I write and every Big Gay Hymn Sing event that I produce will always be about coming back to ourselves in a wholistic empowering way.
My hope is that you find inspiration through the content on this site as we all gently walk ourselves back home through self-compassion, acceptance, and trusting our intuition.
